But what\u2019s more important is the network on which the token was initially minted (Hedera), the journey on which it embarked to becoming an ERC-721 token on Ethereum, and the ingenuity and innovation of the Hedera developer ecosystem. <\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This summer road trip employed several applications and utilities built by the Hedera developer community, including a: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Browser wallet for managing NFTs and paying mint, transfer, and bridging fees.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Marketplace for configuring and minting NFTs using interoperable standards.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bridge the NFT\u00a0over to Ethereum.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Tokenized carbon credit marketplace to offset the environmental impact of the entire process.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">And, like most real-world summer vacations, we had to stick to a budget. For each leg of the journey, we documented our costs. Thankfully, fees on Hedera are fixed, based in USD, and paid in HBAR for all transactions as we\u2019ll detail below; you can estimate the operational costs of\u00a0any Hedera-powered application\u00a0by visiting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hedera.com\/fees\/\">https:\/\/www.hedera.com\/fees\/<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With that, let\u2019s start our journey!<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"color-ultraviolet\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>HashPack Browser Wallet: The vehicle for our summer road trip<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Most road trips require a vehicle to get you to your destination. In our case, this journey involves pit stops at Hedera-powered NFT marketplaces and DeFi applications and crossing a network bridge. The vehicle we\u2019ll be using is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hashpack.app\/\">HashPack Browser Wallet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">HashPack lets you create an account on the Hedera network, buy HBAR using a bank card, manage your NFTs, and sign transactions for applications powered by Hedera.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We followed the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hashpack.app\/post\/how-to-create-your-first-account-with-hashpack\">simple account setup process<\/a> to get started with HashPack and purchased some HBAR using our bank card. On the first leg of our journey, we jumped into HashPack and cruised over to <a href=\"https:\/\/hashaxis.com\/\">HashAxis<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/hedera.com\/users\/hashaxis\">case study<\/a>) marketplace to pick up our favorite snack: ice cream (aka creating an NFT collection and minting our very own Hedera ice cream cone).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">HashAxis is a one-stop shop for minting, buying, and selling NFTs on Hedera. HashAxis displays the content identifier (CID) used for <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.filecoin.io\/about-filecoin\/faq\/\">pinning<\/a> objects in IPFS. In practice, an asset\u2019s creator (typically a protocol or NFT project) must request the asset\u2019s inclusion.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">From there, hashport\u2019s independent validators vote and sign off on assets for their inclusion. They\u2019ve also disclosed the official Smart Contract addresses for <a href=\"https:\/\/hashport-network.medium.com\/\">wrapped versions of these assets<\/a>. And new supported assets are being <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HashportNetwork\/status\/1544667479250722816?s=20&amp;t=jtmfAeRpqb_9p4Mb7qgzZA\">regularly announced<\/a>, such as $DAI, $LINK, $USDT, $USDC, $wBTC, and $AAVE to help create cross-chain liquidity and support DeFi protocols on Hedera in the process. Retail users benefit through reduced transaction fees, expedited transaction times, incredible scalability, and the elimination of frontrunning.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In the case of our NFT, we requested that its token ID be added, and the network validators approved our request. It connects land owners who\u2019ve committed to carbon sequestering practices and investors or businesses who want to offset their carbon footprint. The carbon offset tokens are represented as $DOV and are available on both Hedera and Ethereum.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">DOVU offers Metamask users an <a href=\"https:\/\/calculator.dovu.earth\/\">easy-to-use calculator<\/a> to determine the total carbon footprint of their Ethereum transactions. It allows you to easily purchase tokenized carbon offsets represented as $DOV tokens on either Hedera or Ethereum. The total transaction count for this account is 1, and the CO2E emissions were 59.5910kg (the equivalent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/energy\/greenhouse-gas-equivalencies-calculator\">65.9 pounds of coal burned<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"blog-image mb-40\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hedera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-07-at-2.55.45-PM.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<div class=\"body-text BodyCopy mb-40 style-1\">\n<p>By participating in DOVU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dovu.earth\/en\/introducing-operation-blood-moon\/\">Operation Bloodmoon<\/a> to bring more tokens to Hedera and assist in offsetting Ethereum\u2019s environmental impact, we offset the carbon emissions of our Ethereum transactions by claiming $DOV tokens on Hedera for free. Upon clicking \u201cClaim Tokens\u201d, the application prompted us to sign up for DOVU and enter our Hedera account ID. $DOV tokens were then deposited directly into our Hedera account.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<figure class=\"blog-image mb-40\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hedera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-07-at-3.00.00-PM.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"blog-image mb-40\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/hedera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/Screen-Shot-2022-07-07-at-3.01.02-PM.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<div class=\"body-text BodyCopy mb-40 style-1\">\n<h4 class=\"color-ultraviolet\" dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Twitter\u2019s NFT Profile Picture Functionality<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The \u201cHot DeFi Summer\u201d NFT was successfully transferred to the Ethereum account used by hashport, and the metadata associated with the NFT is readable by both OpenSea and Twitter\u2019s NFT profile picture functionality.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">We believe it\u2019s important that everyone participating in web3, including Twitter\u2019s NFT profile picture functionality, be conscious of their impact on the environment.
